At Birla Cement’s limestone mine in Rajasthan, India, a centuries-old fort overlooking the site has ruled out the use of blasting. For years, this created major challenges: the extremely hard limestone resisted conventional hydraulic rock breakers, slowing output and raising costs.
A breakthrough came with the introduction of the **Yamamoto HRB-1700 hydraulic rock splitter**. By applying ultra-high pressure through drilled holes, the splitter fractures rock from the inside out. This vibration-free method allows the mine to operate safely in the shadow of the fort, without any risk of fly-rock or structural damage.
The results have been striking. With a single HRB-1700, Birla Cement now produces **1,200–1,400 tonnes of limestone per day**. Once the limestone is split out from the face, standard rock breakers are used to reduce the large boulders to manageable sizes for processing.
Mine officials highlight the dual benefits: higher productivity without blasting, and full compliance with heritage and environmental restrictions. The Yamamoto splitter has transformed operations, proving that even the hardest rock can be handled safely and efficiently when blasting isn’t an option.
